A J Charnaud & Co (Pty) Ltd was founded in 1975 by Fiona and Andrew Charnaud as a personal protective clothing manufacturer, to supply industrial rain wear for the South African market. The protective clothing giant has since expanded its range of safety products considerably over the years and now supplies advanced personal protective clothing (ppc) and equipment (ppe) to various sectors of the global economy.
Safety in the mining and fire fighting industries have been major focus areas from the beginning, and today still represent a significant portion of the organisations personal protective equipment customers. Involvement in the provision of protective clothing and safety in the hot metal market goes back to 1978, including the primary aluminium smelter personal protective clothing market since 1999.
Being a leading protective clothing supplier, A J Charnaud identified a need in the market for a material which resisted molten aluminium and cryolite splash. This then led to the in-house creation of the personal protective clothing brand, ALu-SAFE®. A complete head-to-foot package of personal protective clothing products has been built around ALu-SAFE®, including ultra-high heat and molten metal resistant safety footwear.
Today Alu-SAFE® safety clothing and accessories are internationally certified and have set the benchmark for personal protective clothing in the global aluminium industry.
In 2005 a full range of protective clothing and accessories to protect workers against the thermal hazards of electric arc flash was launched under the SURVIVE-ARC® brand name. The electric arc flash safety products range carries full American, European and South African safety standards certification and is exported globally.
Almost all the personal protective clothing products are manufactured in South Africa with some complementary accessories being imported from a variety of global strategic partners.
A J Charnaud & Co (Pty) Ltd is regarded as a leading global supplier of personal protective clothing against flames, heat, molten metal and electric arc flash. A complete head-to-foot range of certified safety products, supported with advanced professional and technical assistance are on offer.
